Contact Lenses for children can really help to boost self-esteem, increase their confidence and will help to avoid broken spectacles/glasses when playing sports.
Our Optometrists will spend the time with you and your child to get the right lens for them. We have been very successful in fitting children with contact lenses for many years and can give the best guidance possible.
The major advantages of your child wearing contact lenses are:
* Better vision for sports and leisure activies - So much better than your child taking their spectacles off in case they break!
* Improved appearance
* Full time vision correction - This will help children with squint, astigmatism and poor vision in one eye to ensure that both of the eyes work together properly, helping to avoid a 'lazy eye'.
* Easily updated - Contact Lens prescriptions can easily be changed, this is extremely helpful if your child's sight is changing frequently.
* Most of our Contact Lenses come with added protection against Ultraviolet (UV).
Best age to wear contact lenses?
There is no medical reason as to why children and teenagers cannot wear contact lenses. As long as they use them correctly, attend their regular appointments in time then they are going to be successful with them.
As a guide we recommend children from the age of 11 to be fitted with contact lenses, however we do have much younger patient's that have been very succesful with our contact lens service.
What is Ortho-K?
Orthokeratology (Ortho-k for short) is a method of correcting the eye whilist the wearer is asleep. During the day they will need NO contact lenses or spectacles. This method can also help to slow the progression of short-sightness (myopia) in children.
